Kids’ Fancy Dress Guide

To capture the true essence of childhood, we’ve teamed up with four mums to document their children having the time of their lives as superheroes and princesses for a day.

From Disney to Marvel, we have everything covered for all fancy dress occasions — especially those days where wearing a princess dress or superhero cape around the house is the only acceptable dress code.

To help complete the magical look, we’ve created some easy to follow face paint tutorials for a range of characters:

Hulk

What you will need:
• 2 x small face paint sponges
• 1 x fine paint brush
• Light green, dark green, white and black face paint

1. Sponge the face with light green face paint until full coverage is achieved.
2. Take a new sponge and add shading to the face, around the forehead and down the sides of the nose.
3. Draw on the white mouth and fill in with white paint using the paint brush.

To complete the Hulk character, use a fine paint brush to draw on the teeth, eyebrows and frown lines in black paint.

What you will need:
• 2 x small face paint sponges
• 1 x fine paint brush
• Gold face paint
• Red, black and white face paint

1. Using a sponge, cover the face with gold paint, leaving a rectangular shape free on the forehead and either side of the cheeks.
2. Fill in the gaps on the forehead and down the sides of the face with red face paint.
3. Using a fine paint brush and black face paint, outline the Iron Man mask shape with a thin line and horizontal lines on the forehead.

Finish the Iron Man look using a fine paint brush and white paint, highlighting the cheeks and forehead with a fine brush stroke.

What you will need:
• 2 x small face paint sponges
• 1 x fine paint brush
• Brown, black and yellow face paint

1. Sponge yellow face paint on the upper half of the face, covering the full area of the forehead and upper cheeks.
2. Take a new sponge and using the brown face paint, sponge along the forehead, down the sides of the face and
down the nose.
3. Outline the brown section using a fine paint brush with black paint and fill in the nose.

Finally, using a fine paint brush and brown face paint, draw on the eyebrows and freckles, either side of the nose.

What you will need:
• 1 x sponge
• 2 x fine paint brush
• Dark pink, white and black paint
• Silver face glitter

1. Sponge the forehead with dark pink face paint.
2. Using a fine paint brush and black face paint, draw on a spider’s web over each eye and a couple of small spiders in the middle of the forehead. If you need a little help, a spider stencil or print out can assist with your artwork!
3. To complete the Spider-Girl look, take another fine paint brush and using the white paint, highlight the spider’s web with fine brush strokes.

What you will need:
• 2 x fine paint brushes
• Green, white and pink face paint
• Silver face glitter

1. Using a thin paint brush, create leaf shapes framing both sides of the eyes and in-between the eyebrows.
2. Take another thin brush and create small petal shapes in white across the forehead.
3. Paint the tip of each petal in a pastel pink to create a delicate, pretty flower design.
4. Finally, sprinkle the face with silver glitter for magical princess appeal!
