If you’re more of an easy breezy, throw-it-on-and-go girl then the season’s easiest trend was made for you. It doesn’t mean you can’t get involved if you prefer jeans and a tee though – try a bright print with your favourite denim or just stick to one colour for a toned down take. It’s true, black never goes out of style but it also doesn’t cheer you up the way a colourful combo does on a gloomy day. So this season, think mix ‘n’ mismatch.
When is a dress not just a dress? When you layer a skirt over the top, obviously. This outfit is the definition of playful – fun, light-hearted and seriously satisfying to look at. It perfectly nails mixing and matching without going OTT thanks to the bold stripes anchoring the whole look. Your eye’s drawn to the skirt and stops everything from looking too busy, which means the colours and pattern can really pop.
There are so many things we love about this outfit; we don’t know where to start. The skirt and top are ultra feminine but the chunky black boots, mussed up hair and simple accessories stop it from looking too chintzy and ‘done’. Plus, sticking to different shades of the same colour means that even though you’re clashing prints the whole thing feels low-key enough to wear anywhere.
There’s so much going on here it shouldn’t work, but somehow it just does. This kind of look isn’t for the fashion fainthearted, but at least there’s no need to think about whether everything ‘goes’! We like to think of it as a celebration of all your most fun and favourite things in your wardrobe. Who said neon is for night-time?
This outfit is a real winner in our books – if you’re not 100% confident with wearing clashing colour just yet then following Jessica Alba’s lead will steer you in the right direction. A classic Breton and black leather jacket are the just the right neutrals to complement a bold print. You don’t have to stick to skirts either; a pair of trousers in a bright pattern you love will work just as well.
