From style confidence, taking risks and classic must-haves, stylist Tracey Lea Sayer, 49, of @trayslounge chats us through how her style has evolved over the years and the pieces every 40-something should have in their wardrobe.
Tell us a bit about yourself….
I have worked in fashion for over 25 years, but when I hit my 40s, I sort of lost myself and was mainly dressing in black because I wanted to be as invisible as possible. Then I discovered Instagram and saw lots of lovely ladies my age and older looking fabulous on their grids and I sort of thought ‘sod it’, I want to join in!
How would you sum up your style?
Masculine, tailored and a little bit utilitarian. I have always taken my style inspo from the boys!
Any tips for reinventing your wardrobe?
Before I buy something I like to think of at least three ways I can wear it. Fashion actually doesn’t change much from year to year so if you are a savvy shopper you can make what you have work hard for you.
Is there such a thing as dressing your age?
No! Just wear what you feel comfortable in and what makes you feel good..
Who inspires your daily style?
@wearsmymoney whose boot and trainer collection is rather enviable. @Backofthewardrobe for her great high street looks with the old designer piece thrown in. @thestlouisreviews for her excellent high-end styling and vintage finds.
