Why leave all the Christmas decorating downstairs? It's a fun tradition in our household to change the children's rooms to something festive as soon as December hits. It really makes them feel (even more) excited for Christmas. Pick some fun and festive bedding in a simple design that won't overwhelm the space, that way you can be more adventurous with the rest of the decor. Layer in texture and warmth to the room with a soft fair isle fleece throw, and accessorise the bed with cute festive cushions. Ramp up their anticipation by placing a Christmas gift sack by the bed and add in a Nutcracker to sprinkle some wonderland magic. For the perfect finishing touch, surround the room with the scent of Christmas with Matalan's gingerbread diffuser.
Christmas time is all about getting creative, whether you love reds and golds or prefer a non traditional colour scheme its easy to create a stunning festive table that reflects your personal style. For me, a calm and relaxed look that connects with nature sets a gorgeous tone. I like to use a neutral palette, lots of candles and foliage from outdoors. Firstly look for tableware that compliments the colour scheme in your home then build around it. Load the centre of the table up with tons of candles, I like to place taller candles at the outer edge of the table, it creates such a lovely atmosphere. Finally, adding in personal touches helps bring a sense of warmth and belonging, these metallic alphabet glass tumblers are the perfect addition to a festive table.
Some would say that the decoration is just as important as the gift itself - maybe not the kids though! An easy way to create a perfect looking pile of presents is to decide on a theme of two or three colours or textures. This year I’ve chosen monochrome and metallics with a touch of green, it matches my interior decor perfectly so will look gorgeous under the tree. Wrapping beautifully is all in the measuring, Matalan has grids on the inside of their paper which is genius! I fold over the edge of paper for neatness and use double sided tape for an extra pro finish. I always use boxes and bags for cheat proof wrapping and tricky shapes, adding some co-ordinating tissue paper will give an extra luxe appeal. Finally add in a festive finishing touch of the outdoors with eucalyptus sprigs, leaves, berries or pine cones - all can all be attached using ribbon or twine.
